Abstract

Multimodal haptics refers to a line of research that explores the use of multiple haptic actuators based on different working principles to enrich the tactile sensations perceived by users. Compared to unimodal haptics, which can often produce relatively simple and monotone feedback, multimodal haptics offers the potential for more dynamic and expressive experiences. However, it also introduces greater complexity in both actuation and rendering, along with challenges related to human factors. In this talk, the speaker will introduce a series of studies conducted in his lab at POSTECH under the overarching theme of multimodal haptics, which combines vibration, impact, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), and thermal feedback for various applications.
